Bassa dels Arcs in Xaló: history and nature just a few steps from town
💧🏞️ La Bassa dels Arcs: history and nature in the heart of Xaló
Bassa dels Arcs Xaló · what to see in Jalón · rural heritage Marina Alta · easy excursions Xaló
In the silence of the valley, where the earth smells of thyme and the water murmurs through reeds, hides one of Xaló's most beautiful and unknown places: the Bassa dels Arcs.
A simple and magical corner at the same time, where time seems to have stood still.
Visiting the Bassa dels Arcs means walking through the history of water, rural life, and the effort of generations who cultivated these lands and built with stone and hands what we now call heritage.
🏛️ What is the Bassa dels Arcs?
The Bassa dels Arcs is an old irrigation pond, built with stone arches that still support its structure today.
It served to store water that descended from the Sierra de Bèrnia and irrigated the valley's orchards, keeping the vineyards, almond trees, olive trees, and vegetables in the area alive.
Although it no longer fulfills its original function, today it remains a testament to Xaló's agricultural past and a perfect place to walk, breathe, and enjoy the landscape.
🌿 A simple and charming walk
The Bassa dels Arcs is located on the outskirts of the town, just a few minutes' walk from the town center.
It is an easy route, ideal for families, couples, or simply to disconnect from the noise.
Along the way, you can enjoy:
-
Muscat vineyards and almond trees in bloom (depending on the time of year).
-
Views of the Sierra de Bèrnia and the Pop valley.
-
Aromas of rosemary, lavender, and damp earth.
-
And, upon reaching the pond, the reflection of the sky in the water, guarded by its stone arches.
📸 A place to contemplate, not just to visit
The Bassa dels Arcs invites you to stop, sit in silence, and contemplate:
