Bodega Las Calzadas – Family tradition and amphora wines
Introduction
Bodega Las Calzadas is a project born from memory, from the recollection of those wines that were part of everyday life. Wines present at the table, at celebrations and in shared moments.
Today, this spirit is revived in the form of artisan wines made in amphorae, where tradition, family and territory unite to create authentic, honest and emotionally rich wines.
Project History
The project originated in Pozoamargo, a small municipality in Cuenca with a long winemaking tradition. It is here that Daniel Sevilla decides to return after his training as an oenologist and his experience in regions such as La Rioja, New Zealand and Australia.
At just 23 years old, he promoted the recovery of old vineyards and traditional winemaking methods, supported by his family. His father, an experienced viticulturist, and his mother, involved in the artistic and hospitality aspects of the winery, form the core of a deeply family-oriented project.
Bodega Las Calzadas is not just a winery, it is the continuation of a story.
Philosophy and Working Method
At Bodega Las Calzadas, everything stems from respect for the land and for the ways of previous generations. Ecological viticulture is practiced, caring for each plot from the vine to the harvest.
Winemaking revives the use of clay amphorae, a traditional technique that allows for more natural vinification, without interference, where the wine evolves slowly and balancedly.
In the winery, intervention is kept to a minimum, aiming for each wine to clearly express its origin. Production is limited to around 25,000 bottles annually, which allows for exhaustive control at each stage of the process.
The Vineyard and the Territory
The vineyards are located in the D.O.P. Ribera del Júcar, in the surroundings of Pozoamargo. This is an inland area, with a continental climate and ideal conditions for viticulture.
The plots, many of them over 50 years old, grow on poor soils that favor low yields and a higher concentration in the grape. This balance between soil, climate and vineyard age results in wines with character and depth.
The surroundings, marked by rural depopulation, are also part of the project: not only recovering vineyards, but also life in the territory.
