Oxer Wines – Wines with a youthful soul and centennial vineyards
Introduction
Oxer Wines is one of the most personal and vibrant projects in the current scene. Behind it is Oxer Bastegieta, a non-conformist winemaker who has found his form of expression in the land. His wines are born from intuition, respect for the vineyard, and a constant search for purity.
Today, Oxer Wines have become a benchmark for those seeking authentic, fresh, and elegant wines with their own identity.
Project History
The journey of Oxer Wines begins with a clear idea: to produce wines with their own identity in Rioja Alavesa. In 2005, he settled in Laguardia, attracted by the unique character of its vineyards. Four years later, in 2009, he produced his first wine from old vine grapes. The result was revealing.
From that moment on, Oxer Wines consolidated as a growing project, with both national and international recognition. What started as an experiment has become a way of life.
Philosophy and working method
At Oxer Wines, everything revolves around respect for the vineyard. The plots are worked organically, following principles of regenerative agriculture, biodynamics, and minimal intervention in the winery.
The work is manual, unhurried, and conscious. Even mules are used to plow the land, maintaining a direct link with tradition. In the winery, intervention is minimal: spontaneous fermentations, gentle extractions, and a winemaking process that seeks infusion rather than force.
Every detail matters, from cultivation to the design of the labels, which reflect Oxer's own creative universe.
The vineyard and the territory
Oxer Wines works in two very different, but equally expressive, areas.
In Rioja Alavesa, the vineyards—many of them centennial—are located in towns such as Elvillar, Leza, Navaridas, and Laguardia. Plots like Artillero, with almost a century of history, represent the soul of the project. Situated at altitudes around 600 meters, these vineyards grow on poor, calcareous soils, giving rise to wines with balance, freshness, and depth.
In Bizkaiko Txakolina, the vineyards are located in Kortezubi, near the sea. Here, the Atlantic climate, humid and temperate, along with clay-limestone soils and well-exposed slopes, allows for slow maturation. The result is fresh, direct, and deeply gastronomic wines.
The style of Oxer Wines
Oxer Wines stand out for their elegance, freshness, and precision. They are wines with very little extraction, where fruit and terroir are expressed without interference.
They are made with spontaneous fermentations and aged in various containers: used large-format barrels, foudres, clay amphorae, and concrete tanks. Everything is designed to preserve the identity of the wine and avoid excessive wood influence.
The result is refined wines, light but profound, with lively acidity and great gastronomic versatility.
