El Imperio 2023 by Bodega Las Calzadas is the winery's second single-vineyard wine and one of its most unique expressions. It comes from a historic vineyard on ungrafted rootstock, recovered after decades of abandonment, where Bobal converses with almost forgotten native varieties. A fine and elegant red, with very limited production, that honors the viticultural legacy of Ribera del Júcar.

Vineyard and Winemaking
The El Imperio vineyard consists of barely 200 ungrafted vines, planted around 1920, flanked by three olive trees, also centuries old. It occupies 0.3 hectares in Pozoamargo (Cuenca), on alluvial soils with a superficial layer of river pebbles. Extreme continental climate, with strong temperature fluctuations and average annual rainfall close to 450 mm.
Harvesting is done manually. Vinification is carried out with 100% whole clusters, and aging takes place for 8 months in clay amphorae, preserving the varietal typicity and the overall finesse.
