La Pansa – Traditional Moscatel Raisins

Available format: 500 g

Product description

A product deeply linked to the history and identity of Marina Alta. These Moscatel raisins are made following an artisanal process that has endured for centuries, preserving a tradition intact that dates back to Roman times.

The family of Ovidio Mas, in Llíber, keeps alive the last commercial production of Moscatel raisins made using the traditional method of scalding and sun-drying on cane racks. The result is fleshy, sweet, and aromatic raisins, with all the natural intensity of the Moscatel grape and a tender texture that makes them an authentic Mediterranean gastronomic treasure.

Authenticity and origin

The production of pansa is part of the economic, cultural, and gastronomic history of Marina Alta. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, it was one of the most important industries in the region, generating a unique heritage represented by the emblematic riuraus, constructions designed to protect the grapes during the drying process.

Today, thanks to the efforts of families like Ovidio Mas's, this tradition re-emerges as a symbol of Mediterranean identity, preserving an ancestral technique practically unaltered since the Middle Ages and offering a product of extraordinary quality and cultural value.
