Majuelo del Chiviritero 2024 is the estate wine from Cantalapiedra Viticultores, a profound and precise interpretation of Verdejo born from a plot of just 2.5 hectares in La Seca, Valladolid. The vineyard, planted in 1981 and organically farmed, is located at an altitude of 750 meters on the characteristic pebble, clay, and limestone soils of the area.

Fermentation in used French oak barrels and extended aging on lees create a serious, broad, and gastronomic Verdejo, where fruit coexists with mineral, herbaceous, and spicy notes.

The Vineyard

Majuelo del Chiviritero comes exclusively from El Chiviritero, a small 2.5-hectare estate located in the municipality of La Seca.

The Verdejo vines were planted in 1981 and are bush-trained at an altitude of about 750 meters. The vineyard has a reduced yield, around 25 hectoliters per hectare, favoring fruit of greater concentration.

The soil consists of the characteristic pebble mantle of La Seca, beneath which layers of clay and limestone appear. Cantalapiedra works the plot with organic viticulture and incorporates some biodynamic principles, seeking to preserve the natural balance of the vineyard and faithfully transmit its identity.

Winemaking

The grapes are pressed in whole clusters and the must ferments directly in used French oak barrels of different capacities, without artificial temperature control.

Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine also completes malolactic fermentation and begins a prolonged aging of 11 months on its lees in French oak barrels.

It then remains for another 5 months in stainless steel tanks, allowing the wine to refine and find balance before bottling.

Tasting Notes

It presents a clean and brilliant lemon yellow color.

The nose is complex and evolving. Fruit appears in the form of pear, peach, and lemon, accompanied by hints of dried hay, chamomile infusion, and delicate notes from its fermentation and aging.

On the palate, it shows a distinctly mineral personality. Hints of chalk, stone, and flint appear, accompanied by spicy notes of clove and pepper and subtle earthy nuances reminiscent of truffle and mushrooms. The fruit evolves towards more mature profiles, but without losing tension.

It is broad and fleshy, but the acidity always keeps the whole fresh and precise. A serious, dry, and elegant Verdejo, with depth and a marked plot character.

Food Pairing

Its structure and complexity allow it to go far beyond an aperitif. Excellent with rice dishes, pasta, baked or grilled fish, poultry, white meats, small game, mushrooms, and soft or semi-cured cheeses.

It is recommended to serve between 9 and 12 ºC.

Majuelo del Chiviritero 2024 shows a Verdejo far removed from simple and immediate profiles. A single estate, vines over four decades old, low yields, and patient aging create a white wine where fruit, stone, spices, and freshness speak of the landscape of La Seca with depth and personality.
