Casa Castillo Pie Franco 2023 is one of the great references of the Spanish Mediterranean and one of Jumilla's most iconic wines. From an old Monastrell plot planted ungrafted in 1941, this wine represents the ultimate expression of balance, depth, and Mediterranean authenticity.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from the historic Pago La Solana, a plot of approximately 8 hectares facing south and southwest.

The vineyard was planted ungrafted in 1941, preserving the historical essence of Mediterranean Monastrell intact.

Sandy soils with fine sediments and glacis provide a unique combination of depth, freshness, and mineral expression.

The extremely low yield, around 800 kg per hectare, favors enormous concentration and complexity.

Winemaking

Harvesting is done manually, and fermentation takes place in traditional underground stone lagares with native yeasts and some whole clusters.

Malolactic fermentation occurs in foudres, and then the wine remains for 20 months in 500 and 5,000-liter foudres.

Bottling takes place in June 2024.

Tasting Notes

Dark cherry red color with a garnet rim.

On the nose, it displays enormous aromatic complexity with notes of ripe red and black fruit, chocolate, coffee, spices, balsamic hints, and delicate mineral nuances.

On the palate, it shows perfectly balanced power, with deep ripe fruit, polished tannins, and an extraordinary combination of balsamic freshness and spicy notes.

The finish is long, persistent, and full of Mediterranean elegance.

Pairing

Ideal with traditional chicken and rabbit paella, lamb, game meats, and intense Mediterranean cuisine.

One of Spain's great Monastrells, profound and refined, capable of conveying with enormous precision the arid, mineral, and luminous landscape of Jumilla.
