Kanonkop Pinotage 2021 is a dry red wine produced by Kanonkop Wine Estate in the Stellenbosch region, South Africa. It comes from dryland vineyards with vines between 32 and 67 years old, planted in decomposed granite and Hutton soils in the Simonsberg-Stellenbosch area.

Harvest is done manually, with careful selection of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in open concrete fermenters at 28°C, with manual pump-overs every two hours. After a 3-day maceration and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 18 months in 225-liter French oak barrels, 80% new and 20% second-use.

Tasting Notes

Bright red color with purple hues. On the nose, intense aromas of plums and blackberries, complemented by notes of licorice, smoke, toasted nuts, and vanilla. On the palate, concentrated flavors of plums, black and red cherries, dark chocolate, and spicy oak. Mature and well-integrated tannins, balanced by a refreshing acidity, culminating in a long and harmonious finish.
