Marimar Estate Mas Cavalls Pinot Noir 2018 represents the most Atlantic and refined expression of Pinot Noir grown by Marimar Torres in California. Sourced from the Doña Margarita vineyard, named in honor of the founder's mother, this wine is born in one of the most privileged areas of the Sonoma Coast, where the constant influence of the Pacific Ocean allows for slow ripening and extraordinary aromatic complexity.

The name Mas Cavalls pays homage to traditional Catalan farmhouses and the deep family bond with the land, uniting the Torres family's winemaking heritage with one of the world's great Pinot Noir terroirs.

The Vineyard

The grapes come exclusively from the Doña Margarita Vineyard, named after Margarita Riera, Marimar Torres's mother.

This vineyard, approximately 8 hectares, is located on the Sonoma Coast, just 10 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, where sea breezes and frequent fogs create one of the most suitable environments for growing Pinot Noir.

The planting combines three prestigious clones of the variety:

Dijon 115

Pommard

Dijon 667

Each contributes different aromatic nuances, structure, and depth to the final wine.

Winemaking

After a carefully selected harvest, the grapes are subjected to very gentle pressing to preserve all their delicacy.

Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel vats using only indigenous yeasts from the estate, allowing the character of the vineyard to be faithfully expressed.

Subsequently, the wine remains for 10 months in top-quality French oak barrels from the prestigious coopers Remond, Marchive, and Rousseau, using wood sourced mainly from the Bertranges forest and central France. 39% of the barrels are new, adding complexity without overshadowing the natural elegance of the Pinot Noir.

Tasting Notes

It presents an attractive, bright ruby red color of medium intensity.

On the nose, it displays great elegance with aromas of wild cherries, raspberries, and ripe red fruits, accompanied by delicate notes of clove, sandalwood, and a characteristic forest floor background that adds depth and complexity.

On the palate, it is silky, broad, and perfectly balanced. The tannins are fine and delicate, while the acidity keeps the whole fresh and vibrant. Its fleshy texture and long finish leave persistent memories of red fruit, sweet spices, and elegant, perfectly integrated oak notes.

Pairing

Ideal with duck, quail, free-range chicken, salmon, bluefin tuna, mushroom risottos, Asian cuisine, white meats, mild lamb, and soft cheeses.

Recommended serving temperature: 16 ºC.
