Marqués de Murrieta Reserva 2020 Magnum is the large-format version of the emblematic reserva from the prestigious Finca Ygay in Rioja Alta. Owned by the Cebrián-Sagarriga family and with technical direction by María Vargas, this wine combines tradition and elegance with extended aging that enhances its complexity.

Produced with a classic blend of Tempranillo (≈87%), Graciano, Mazuelo, and Garnacha from their own vineyards, fermentation is carried out by varietals, and the coupage undergoes approximately 21 months of aging in American oak barrels, followed by a resting period in the bottle for refinement.

Tasting Notes

Intense and brilliant cherry color with a garnet rim. The nose reveals a harmonious blend of red fruit (cherries, plums), sweet spices, licorice, fennel, vanilla, and balsamic touches. On the palate, it is mature and creamy, with silky tannins, balanced acidity, an enveloping texture, and a persistent finish that combines freshness, fruit, and a slight balsamic bitterness.

Pairing

This magnum reserva is perfect with grilled red meats, roast lamb, rich stews, game dishes, and aged cheeses. Its structure and elegance also make it an excellent companion for select charcuterie and special gatherings.

History and Terroir

Finca Ygay is the historic heart of the winery, with vineyards planted on the same property since the mid-19th century. María Vargas, recognized as the best winemaker in the world in 2021, maintains with this reserva the philosophy of tradition, estate-grown vineyards, and extended aging that distinguishes Marqués de Murrieta.
