Pou d'en Mas 2024 is a limited edition (511 bottles) dry white wine, produced by Óscar Mestre in Alicante. A pure expression of the native Giró Blanc variety, carefully cultivated in a unique vineyard in the Pou d'en Mas area.
Giró Blanc
This white grape variety is native to Mallorca. Its exact origin is unknown. It has no genetic relation to the red varieties Garnacha Tinta (also known as Giró) or Girò (Giró Nero) from Sardinia. The late-ripening vine is resistant to both forms of mildew, although susceptible to botrytis. It produces aromatic white wines with high alcohol content, with flavors of pineapple, citrus, and mango. This almost extinct grape has experienced a remarkable revitalization in recent years.
The Pou d'en Mas vineyard, planted in 1970, was rediscovered in 2023 by Óscar Mestre. After genetic analysis, it was confirmed to be the Giró Blanc variety, unique in the region and rarely seen on the Costa Blanca.
