La Poulosa 2023 is one of Raúl Pérez's most beloved and personal plots within the La Vizcaína project. Located in one of the warmest areas of Valtuille, this Mencía expresses a more mature, round, and velvety profile, always maintaining the Atlantic freshness that defines the great wines of Bierzo.

A deep and elegant red wine that combines fruit, texture, and delicacy with absolute naturalness.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from the La Poulosa plot, located in Valtuille de Abajo at about 550 meters of altitude and with a southeast orientation.

This is one of the warmest plots of the project, planted in 1940 on sandy and pink granite soils, providing maturity, smoothness, and great aromatic expression.

The Atlantic-continental climate favors balanced wines full of nuances.

Winemaking

Harvest is done manually.

Fermentation takes place in large open vats using approximately 80% whole clusters, with a prolonged maceration of about 60 days.

Subsequently, the wine is aged for 12 months in used French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

Ripe cherry red color with a bright red rim.

On the nose, it displays a wide range of red fruits such as strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, accompanied by delicate floral and mineral nuances.

On the palate, it shows a magnificent balance between freshness and tannin, with a silky texture, a deep passage, and an intense and elegant finish.

Pairing

Ideal with roasted meats, traditional Bierzo cuisine, artisanal cured meats, mushrooms, and mild game dishes.

A refined and enveloping Mencía that reflects the warmest and silkiest side of Bierzo under the precise and emotional gaze of Raúl Pérez.
