Shirakawa 1958 is one of the rarest and most legendary expressions ever bottled in Japan. Originating from the defunct Shirakawa distillery, located 200 kilometers north of Tokyo and permanently closed in 2003, this single malt represents an unrepeatable fragment of Japanese whisky history. For decades, Shirakawa's distillates were exclusively destined for the art of blending and never reached the market as a single malt... until now.

This limited edition is born from the collaboration between Tomatin Distillery and Takara Shuzo, becoming the only official single malt bottling of Shirakawa and the oldest Japanese single vintage ever released. Only 1,500 bottles exist worldwide.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Resinous and elegant, with dried citrus peels, natural wax, dry earth, and delicate hints of exotic incense. With a few drops of water, more mature and aromatic notes appear.
Palate: Broad and silky, with fragrant herbs, ripe fruit, and a complex spiced and dry structure. Water reveals incense ash, an enveloping texture, and a surprising vibrant acidity.
Finish: Persistent and refined, with menthol notes, soft camphor, and a deeply spiced echo.

Uses and pairing

A whisky conceived for contemplation and collection. Ideal for enjoying neat, in a large glass and without haste, allowing it to evolve slowly. It doesn't need accompaniment, although it can harmonize with pure dark chocolate or delicate Japanese nuts.
