Made by Valdemonjas in Quintanilla de Arriba, it comes from a selection of the central plots of the estate and expresses the elegance of Tempranillo in a Ribera del Duero marked by altitude, limestone soils and respectful viticulture.

The Vineyard

The grapes come from the central plots of Valdemonjas, located in Quintanilla de Arriba (Valladolid).

The Tempranillo vines were planted in 1998 and are trained in espalier with double Royat cordon and north-south orientation.

The vineyards are located on complex limestone soils with marls, gypsum, sand and deep red clays, capable of providing depth, balance and mineral character to the wines.

The east and west exposures of the plots allow for moderating the effects of the sun during the warmest months, favoring a more balanced ripening.

Elaboration

The 2022 vintage was marked by an intense drought and above-average temperatures.

To preserve freshness and avoid over-ripening, the winery carried out early green pruning and an early harvest during the first week of September.

Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks and small ovoid concrete tanks, seeking a gentle and respectful extraction of the fruit.

Malolactic fermentation took place in cement tanks and 500-liter barrels.

Subsequently, the wine aged for 13 months in 225 and 228-liter French oak barrels, supplemented with 500-liter French and American oak barrels.

Tasting Notes

It presents an attractive deep cherry red color with violet reflections.

On the nose, it shows an excellent combination of ripe red and black fruit, accompanied by spicy notes, balsamic hints and elegant nuances from aging.

On the palate, it stands out for its balance and amplitude, with a silky texture, well-integrated tannins and an acidity that provides freshness and length.

The finish is persistent and harmonious, leaving memories of ripe fruit, spices and delicate toasted nuances.

Pairing

Ideal for accompanying grilled red meats, roast lamb, traditional stews, mountain rice dishes, mushrooms and aged cheeses.

Recommended serving temperature: between 16 and 18 ºC.
